February 1, 2007 found me attending a Farmer's Market Information Session in Syracuse.  This event which is held every other year was sponsored by Cornell Coop. Ext. and the Farmer's Market Federation of NY.  They opened the session describing the F.M. Nutrition Program and EBT.  FMNP is a program of WIC and Senior Services; EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) has replaced food stamps.  Both of these programs have enabled those enrolled to purchase fresh fruits and veggies at farmer's markets.  Nutrition awareness and community involvement are the goals.  The programs are hugely successful.

During lunch I networked with Cornell Coop. Ext. agents from Oswego County.  I enthusiastically described how my niece in second grade loved her pedometer and lunch box she received in their health awareness program.  They were happy to hear the feedback, as this is a pilot program.

Farming is a lifestyle choice for Joe and me.  It excites us to reach out to others and encourage healthy food choices.  It was great to share that excitement with the extension agents.
