February progress

We're in the third week of February, FINALLY! Although it is the shortest month, it has been creeping by for me. I have cabin fever something fierce. We've been chipping away at the chore list, and have completed two biggies: website updates and orchard pruning!
We spend Sunday updating our site: new pics, more text, more featured projects. We have a table that lists our target vegetables for this year, certainly not the end all be all of lists! It was fun helping Joe chose pics and seeing how hard he works to make incremental progress on it. At one point, we thought we lost an hour's worth of work. After calming down, we took the dogs out to play; actually we needed to play

We're very proud of the improvements....please give us any feedback!
Last weekend found us pruning the orchard nearest to the garden. DJ and Teddy joined us for a chilly and productive day. The guys went at it with the chain saws, while Teddy and I burned brush and did miscellaneous chores around camp. The trees hadn't been pruned in about 20 years, so there was alot of deadwood to remove, then making structural cuts. We got six done, with another dozen or so left on the property. These apple trees have 10"+ trunks on them!
Iris and Hazel also had a banner weekend, their first one working the garden together. We witnessed four voles going down, with others we probably missed. They were so happy! They listened quite well, alleviating my worries about that. The sloppy, twenty degree weather didn't slow them down: they were wet all day. Good thing that labs like those conditions! There will be alot more of that than anything else out on our hill. Iris also got a groundhog a couple of days after this trip. She's fast with the takedown. The pups barely realized what she was doing by the time she was done! She promised me five years ago that she'd earn her chow...good dog Iris!
